JD.com expands Ecuadorian rose imports to strengthen supply chain
JD Flowers aims to sell over 100 million flowers by 2025.
JD Flowers, the floral division of JD.com, is expanding its direct sourcing of Ecuadorian roses to meet rising demand for high-quality imported flowers in China.
JD Flowers can deliver roses from Ecuador to Chinese consumers in as little as 72 hours, while keeping prices competitive.
Ecuadorian roses, known for their long stems, vibrant colors, and durability, thrive in the country’s high-altitude, sun-rich climate. The expansion follows the 2024 China-Ecuador Free Trade Agreement, which eliminated import tariffs and enabled JD Flowers to reduce retail prices by approximately 30%.
JD Flowers aims to sell over 100 million flowers by 2025, sourcing 50 million imported blooms from Ecuador, the Netherlands, Japan, and Colombia.
China’s flower retail market is projected to grow at 7% annually, surpassing RMB250b by 2025.
JD Flowers’ buyers work directly with farms like Ceres Farms to streamline exports, reduce costs, and maintain quality. A dedicated “Ecuadorian Rose Supply Route” with Emirates Airlines cuts transit time to 40 hours and ensures freshness through a three-stage temperature control process and expedited customs clearance.
