Jaya Grocer wins top honours at Retail Asia Awards 2026
The supermarket chain expanded its omnichannel ecosystem, distribution network, and private label portfolio.
Jaya Grocer was recognised with three major accolades at the Retail Asia Awards 2026, winning Supermarket of the Year - Malaysia, Private Label Brand of the Year - Malaysia, and Retail Distribution Network of the Year - Malaysia. The wins recognised Jaya Grocer with its strategic store expansion, Mega Store model, Grab Signatures private label range, and investments in automated grocery distribution.
Expanding grocery access across Malaysia
Jaya Grocer continued to strengthen its nationwide footprint, growing to more than 60 stores across Malaysia. Recent expansion milestones included new openings in Rawang, Putrajaya, and Penang, alongside the relaunch of its 40,000-square-foot flagship store in Ipoh.
The company also introduced the Jaya Grocer Signature concept, an elevated retail format catered to growing demand for premium grocery selections through curated imports, fresh produce, and enhanced shopping environments.
Its Mega Store model also widened online grocery access through GrabMart. Whilst standard digital grocery platforms typically carry 5,000 to 8,000 SKUs, Jaya Grocer made up to 17,000 SKUs available online through store-based fulfilment and Grab’s delivery network. The initiative led to a 44% increase in online orders.
Turning local flavours into retail products
The retailer developed Grab Signatures as a private label range that brought popular restaurant flavours into ready-to-consume grocery formats. The range used GrabFood consumption data to identify in-demand products and Jaya Grocer’s store network to bring them to shelves.
Village Park Sambal became the top-selling product in Jaya Grocer’s sauce category in 2024. Customer feedback led to the launch of a Lagi Pedas variant and sachet formats for travel use. From one merchant and one SKU in 2023, Grab Signatures grew to seven merchant partners and 24 SKUs across five categories, with export presence in Singapore, Brunei, and the United Kingdom.
Building the future of grocery distribution
Jaya Grocer’s distribution network currently supports more than 60 stores across Peninsular Malaysia, handling over 28,000 SKUs and dispatching more than 40,000 cartons daily. Its fleet of more than 100 vehicles completes over 150 daily trips across multiple temperature categories.
To further strengthen operational scalability and efficiency, the company is investing over RM100m in Malaysia’s first automated grocery distribution centre. The 250,000-square-foot facility uses automated storage and retrieval systems, robotic shuttles, conveyors, and sortation systems, with more than 80% of storage operations automated. Its Transportation Management System supports route planning, load consolidation, fleet use, and real-time operational visibility.
