Starbucks pilots ‘Green Dot’ AI assistant to support baristas in real time
It is currently being piloted in 35 Starbucks locations.
Starbucks has launched a generative AI tool to help baristas access information instantly during their shifts.
Announced at its Leadership Experience event, the new tool, Green Dot Assist, acts as a virtual assistant that provides baristas with real-time guidance via in-store iPads. The system is currently being piloted in 35 Starbucks locations.
Instead of referring to physical manuals or searching for information online, baristas can now ask questions directly through the assistant and receive instant, conversational answers.
For instance, Green Dot Assist can quickly provide the recipe for a seasonal beverage or offer guidance on store protocols, streamlining workflows and helping staff serve customers more efficiently.
The move is part of a broader strategy to reduce friction in daily operations and free up time for baristas to focus on customer service and beverage quality.
Starbucks said the initiative reflects its commitment to investing in technology that enhances—not replaces—human connection within its stores.
More locations are expected to adopt the system in the coming months.
