Shopee Malaysia achieves record-high 34 million hours of livestreaming and online selling in 2023
It also attained 3.5 billion instances of live engagement with local influencers and sellers.
Leading e-commerce platform Shopee has unprecedented records in their livestreaming and affiliate commerce channels with 34 million hours of livestreams and 3.5 billion times of engagement with local influencer hosts.
Livestream orders account for 10% to 40% of overall platform orders from sellers who earned more than $107,000 (MYR500,000) this year. Affiliate-based orders also grew to 420%, alongside more than 20,000 new affiliates this year.
Malaysian consumers have continued to rely on online platforms for their shopping choices, as proven by the prominence of shoppable livestreaming and the integration of e-commerce and live sessions. This applies to all types of items, from fashion products (60%) to groceries (20%) to appliances and electronics (10%).
Shopee Live has become a more significant outlet for local sellers, with 60% of overall sales coming from them. This is propelled more by online sellers taking advantage of Shopee’s polling function, interactive games and celebrity endorsements.
“This marks a significant milestone in Malaysia’s digital transformation journey. These trends have revolutionised the way Malaysians shop, learn, and engage with brands, creating a dynamic and interactive online landscape. It’s also a demonstration of just how hyper-localised e-commerce has become,” Kenneth Soh, head of marketing of Shopee Malaysia, said.
