Shein partners with Transfar Chemicals to advance textile dyeing, finishing
It will digitalise dyeing processes.
Global fashion retailer Shein has partnered with Transfar Chemicals to improve textile dyeing and finishing technologies.
The collaboration focuses on three key areas, namely digitalising dyeing processes to reduce energy, water use, and carbon emissions; developing functional fabrics like stretch and water-repellent materials; and improving testing methods for quality and safety.
Shein will use its digital supply chain to track demand for advanced fabrics, whilst Transfar Chemicals will apply its expertise in functional chemistry to develop sustainable production methods.
Additionally, Shein will support partnerships between Transfar Chemicals and regional textile manufacturers to bring new innovations to market.
This initiative aligns with SHEIN’s sustainability efforts, including its digitalised, on-demand supply chain that minimises excess inventory and waste.
Earlier this year, SHEIN partnered with Donghua University to develop a polyester recycling process that repurposes textile waste and PET bottles. Initial tests showed the recycled polyester can be reused multiple times without degrading. SHEIN is now scaling the technology for commercial production.
