CJ Olive Young launches AI in-store services for foreign customers
Service supports eight languages.
CJ Olive Young has launched AI-powered in-store services to improve the shopping experience for foreign customers amidst growing global demand for K-beauty.
The retailer is introducing its AI Shopping Assistant in multi-story stores with high foreign customer traffic. Available in eight languages, the kiosk-based service provides product information, inventory checks, product locations, and personalized recommendations based on customers' skin concerns and preferences.
Olive Young said the AI Shopping Assistant also improves store operations by handling common inquiries, including payment methods and VAT refunds, allowing employees to focus on customer consultations. It also provides store managers with data on customer behavior and frequently asked questions.
The company is also introducing an AI Interpretation Service to support communication between customers and store staff. An upgrade to the portable translator introduced in 2024, the AI-powered service supports 38 languages and is being deployed first in stores with a high proportion of foreign customers.
Customers can use the service by scanning a QR code provided by staff for real-time chat or by speaking through a tablet installed in the store. The AI is trained on K-beauty terminology to accurately translate skin concerns, ingredients, and product usage during consultations.
Olive Young said the new AI services build on its existing multilingual support, global payment options, instant tax refund services, and portable translators, further reducing language barriers throughout the shopping experience.
