AI drives personalised haircare solutions in APAC

Generative AI tools, such as virtual try-ons using images and videos, are also gaining popularity.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is offering personalised solutions to address rising hair loss and scalp concerns in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, according to GlobalData.

Naveed Khan, consumer analyst at GlobalData, noted how AI integrates machine learning and data analytics to evaluate individual hair types and provide tailored recommendations. Generative AI tools, such as virtual try-ons using images and videos, are also gaining popularity.

Deepak Nautiyal, APAC and ME Consumer and Retail Commercial Director at GlobalData, added that consumer demand for AI-driven solutions is rising.

A GlobalData survey from Q2 2024 found that 57% of respondents in Asia and Australasia base their cosmetic and toiletry purchases on how well products are tailored to their specific needs.

Manufacturers are responding to this trend. In June, Unilever launched BeautyHub PRO in the Philippines and Thailand, an AI-powered app that provides instant skincare and haircare recommendations.

Earlier in March, Dove introduced the Scalp + Hair Therapist tool, which uses AI to create personalized hair and scalp profiles. In Hong Kong, AI startup HairCoSys launched a mobile app for scalp and hair evaluation.
