Sales and services tax to return in Malaysia

Following the recent Malaysia general election, the new government has announced that the country’s fiscal reform initiative is underway.

In a statement, the Ministry of Finance said: “The shortfall from Goods and Services Tax (GST), which is to be zero-rated effective 1 June 2018, will be cushioned by specific revenue and expenditure measures that shall be announced in due course.”

According to media reports, the Sales and Services Tax (SST) will be re-introduced in September.
