2017 - 14th Top 500 Awards & Gala Dinner Event (Press Release)

The Top 10 best performing retailers, ranked by their gross sales and across 10 formats in 14 economies, received crystal trophies and Certificates of Distinction during the 14th Retail Asia-Pacific Top 500 Awards Ceremony & Gala Dinner.

This year, the awards ceremony was held on 24 October 2017 at The Westin Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, on the eve of the 18th APRCE (Asia Pacific Retailers Convention & Exhibition) at the KLCC (Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre) which is organised and hosted by FAPRA (Federation of Asia-Pacific Retailers Associations) (with a membership of 18 countries) and the Malaysian Retailers Association.

Presented by NYUC Media (publisher of Retail Asia magazine) in partnership with Euromonitor International (Official Market Information Provider) and KPMG (Principal Program Partner), and sponsored by Crown Equipment (Gold Sponsor) and Nixdorf Diebold (Co-Sponsor), the Retail Asia Pacific Top 500 is a groundbreaking research launched in 2004 to rank and acknowledge the Top 500 retail businesses of the region based on their total turnover.

Each year, the Retail Asia-Pacific Top 500 ranking study culminates in an awards ceremony cum gala dinner. During the awards ceremony, five winners were conferred the highest honours – “Asia- Pacific Best of the Best” award. Selected from the Top 10 Retailers in the 14 economies and shortlisted through a rigorous judging process, the five ‘Asia-Pacific Best of Best Retailers’ for 2017 – in alphabetical order are:

• AEON, Malaysia
• Indomarco Prismatama, Indonesia
• Mercury Drug Corp, Philippines
• Luk Fook International Holdings, Hong Kong
• Mobile World, Vietnam

A highlight of the event was the induction of The Good Guys of Australia to the Retail Asia-Pacific Top 500 Hall of Fame. The ultimate Hall of Fame accolade is accorded to the retail company that has won “Asia- Pacific Best of the Best” title for three consecutive years.

Speaking on the significance of the Retail Asia-Pacific Top 500 ranking and the Hall of Fame title, JB Hi-Fi Group CEO, Richard Murray says, “We’re honoured to be the first Australian retail company to be inducted into Retail Asia-Pacific’s Top 500 Awards Hall of Fame. This is an incredible achievement, and a true testament to the hard work of The Good Guys team across Australia.“

Now in its 14th year, the Top 500 ranking, which is published in Retail Asia magazine in July 2017, covers the Top 500 Retailers in the region and the Top 10 Retailers in 14 economies – Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam. The annual report also covers 10 retail formats – Clothing, Footwear & Accessories Stores (CFA Stores), Convenience Stores (C-Stores), Department Stores, Hardline Stores, Media Products Stores, Health & Beauty Stores, Hypermarkets, Sports Goods Stores, Supermarkets and Other Retailers. Internet Retailing was added as the 11th retail format.
