FairPrice Group, Google Cloud partner to launch AI-powered shopping, workplace tools
Shoppers can now use smart carts equipped with multimodal AI assistants.
FairPrice Group (FPG) and Google Cloud have announced an expanded multi-year collaboration to bring AI-powered shopping and workplace tools to Singapore’s largest retailer.
The initiative aims to make shopping smarter and more efficient whilst helping employees work faster and more creatively.
As part of FPG’s Store of Tomorrow program, AI assistants built with Google Cloud’s Agent Development Kit (ADK) are now available at FairPrice Finest Punggol Digital District.
These agents provide personalised recommendations, streamline product searches, and assist with recipes and meal planning.
Shoppers can use smart carts equipped with multimodal AI assistants to navigate stores, scan barcodes, spot promotions, and get tailored product suggestions.
For example, a search for “yam paste” returns ready-to-cook items, ingredients, and in-store availability. Conversational smart carts will expand to FairPrice Finest Thomson Plaza in Q4 2025.
FPG is also piloting Vertex AI Search for Commerce, which handles non-English and local dialect queries, making it easier for customers to find products like “low fat cheese,” “荔枝” (lychee), or “orh nee” (yam paste).
Specialised AI agents help with health and lifestyle choices at Unity pharmacy, providing personalized wellness advice, meal plans, and shopping lists.
Moreover, wine shoppers can use a digital sommelier to get recommendations based on taste, price, origin, and food pairings.
Employees gain access to Google Agentspace, allowing them to create and use AI agents for tasks like research, ad creation, HR, and customer service. A custom creative agent now generates ad visuals and copy up to ten times faster than before.
With this partnership, FPG is rolling out AI across stores and operations to improve both the customer and employee experience.
