Dairy Farm’s Guardian shelves plans for Thailand stores

It is now focussing on selling products through 7-Eleven.

Dairy Farm-owned health and beauty chain Guardian has shelved its plans to open stores in Thailand in 2021 with its joint-venture partner CP ALL, opting to sell products only through its partner, IGD reported.

The retailer planned to open stores between 200-300 sqm, with 20% of the products under the Guardian brand. The company is focussing on selling its products through the 7-Eleven network instead of opening its own stores.

"We've joined hands with 7-Eleven because the latter has a strong network to bring Guardian products to reach Thai households. We are a new player but we definitely have an intention to grow our business in Thailand," said Kim Teng Ng, Guardian’s managing director.

Since the announcement in 2020, 7-Eleven has been carrying Guardian products on its shelves and through a shop-in-shop format. Currently, about 150 products are available in 2,800 stores and there are plans to launch new products every month.
