Giant enhances shopping experience with vending machines

Hypermarket and retailer chain Giant launched VendMart in Singapore yesterday – a cluster of 17 vending machines offering a wide range of products and food.

The machines dispense hot and cold ready-to-eat meals, such as fresh popiahs and pizzas, knick-knacks, grooming products, pet provisions, healthy snacks, gardening supplies, orange juice and more. In addition to the curated list of unique and innovative vending machine concepts, Giant also created its very own Mystery Box vending machine. For $10, customers will receive a surprise item that is worth more in value such as Giant vouchers, household appliances, kitchen gadgets and even an iPhone 8.

VendMart is currently available at Giant Hypermarket at Tampines and IMM in Jurong East from now till December, and the company said it complements Giant’s comprehensive range of offerings while creating a differentiated shopping experience for customers.

“At Giant, we are always putting ourselves in the shoes of customers and thinking how we can make their visits fresh and exciting over and over again. We’re not just in the business of retail but retail-tainment,” said Ruald Swart, chief executive officer of Giant, Dairy Farm Singapore.

“The addition of VendMart reinforces our commitment to provide our customers with a one-of-a-kind retail experience. Vending machine is a trend that’s been sweeping the world by storm and we saw an opportunity to elevate it on a scale that customers have not experienced before. Everything is bigger at Giant and VendMart definitely reflects that mantra. It is also the perfect platform to hero the innovative spirit and drive of local brands and start-ups,” he added.

House of Seafood, Mr Popiah, Farmily, Boxgreen, No Signboard Seafood, SGPomades, SHIOK! Pizza (pictured) and Tenacity Toys are among the companies offering their products via the vending machines at Giant Hypermarket Tampines.
