IKEA’s expansion to New Zealand on track for 2025 opening

It will be IKEA’s first new market since 2020 when it opened in Slovenia.

IKEA’s expansion to New Zealand is progressing ahead of its planned 2025 opening.

The blue facade of the Auckland store is nearly complete, with work continuing on the showroom, restaurant, and roof. The steel frame, which includes 4,800 tons of steel—double the usual amount—will soon be finished to meet New Zealand’s earthquake safety standards. The iconic yellow IKEA sign is expected to be installed by mid-2025.

Recruitment has also started, with over 400 positions set to be filled in early 2025.

The nearby IKEA warehouse, located 20 kilometers from the store, is fully operational and will support nationwide online deliveries from the start.

New Zealand will be IKEA’s first new market since 2020 when it opened in Slovenia.

The expansion is part of a €5b investment by IKEA to enhance existing stores and open new ones across 31 markets by 2027.
