JD.com completes acquisition of KAI BO food supermarket in Hong Kong

The deal strengthens its presence in the Guangdong-HK-Macau GBA.

JD.com has completed the acquisition of KAI BO Food Supermarket, marking its entry into Hong Kong’s physical retail market.

KAI BO, founded in 1991, operates over 90 stores with more than 1,000 employees across the city.

The chain will now form part of JD.com’s Innovative Retail business group, led by KAI BO founder Lam Hiu-ngai.

JD.com said the deal strengthens its presence in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and combines its supply chain capabilities with KAI BO’s local market expertise.

To celebrate, KAI BO will hold a three-day, storewide 20% discount event from August 16 to 18, 2025.

The acquisition follows JD.com’s expansion in Hong Kong since September 2024, which has included the launch of a Price Match Guarantee, a 30-Day Return and 180-Day Faulty Product Replacement policy for electronics, and a One-Item Free Shipping service.

The company also recently opened its JD Express Hong Kong Island logistics hub.
