Metro Retail streamlines supply chain with Gulay Farmers partnership
It will also help in improving agricultural standards and reducing waste.
Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. has strengthened its partnership with Gulay Farmers, a non-profit organisation that connects small-scale farmers to retail markets.
The collaboration gives farmers direct access to MRSGI's stores under its fresh produce brand, Q, ensuring fair pricing, market stability, and long-term growth.
Additionally, it will help farmers with regulatory compliance, logistics, and quality control, allowing them to focus on improving productivity and quality. This setup helps farmers enter retail markets, earn fairer incomes, and invest in their farms.
The partnership aligns with MRSGI’s farm-to-market strategy, which focuses on local food security and economic sustainability. By working with farmer cooperatives, MRSGI offers high-quality, fresh produce at competitive prices while ensuring fair compensation for farmers. This collaboration helps improve agricultural standards, reduce waste, and ensure consistent product supply.
Since launching in 2020, the program has supported 500 farmers and delivered 60,000 tons of locally grown produce annually to MRSGI stores. Currently, it supplies eight Metro Retail locations in Cebu, expanding market access for smallholder farmers and offering consumers fresh, locally sourced produce.
MRSGI and Gulay Farmers plan to expand the program beyond Cebu, improving supply chain efficiency and helping more farmers access formal retail markets.
