IKEA joins Partnership on AI to promote ethical AI development

The company recently launched an AI and Data Literacy initiative to educate its workforce.

IKEA has joined the Partnership on AI (PAI) to support the responsible and ethical development of artificial intelligence (AI).

As part of the collaboration, IKEA will contribute to international discussions on the ethical application of AI, ensuring its development aligns with human-centric values and societal needs.

The company has already taken significant steps in this direction, including the implementation of a comprehensive digital ethics framework, the introduction of responsible automation focused on people-first approaches, and the launch of an AI and Data Literacy initiative to educate its workforce.

“Our participation in this partnership reflects our belief that AI has the potential to enhance our mission of creating a better everyday life for the many, while helping address some of the most pressing challenges facing society today, from climate change to resource management,” said Parag Parekh, Chief Digital Officer (CDO) for IKEA Retail (Ingka Group). “This includes leveraging AI for good to drive positive, long-lasting change. We are committed to this journey for the long term.”

By joining the global network of experts, think tanks, and philanthropic organizations, IKEA strengthens its commitment to responsible innovation. The partnership aims to develop practical guidelines and solutions for the ethical use of AI, in line with IKEA’s goal of making life at home more sustainable.

The Partnership on AI, a coalition of over 100 organizations, works to ensure AI benefits society. It promotes economic equality through its AI and Shared Prosperity Initiative and tracks AI-related issues with its AI Incident Database.
