About 9 in 10 APAC consumers abandon online carts over inflexible delivery options

Some want to have their items delivered to other places instead of their homes.

About 94% of e-commerce shoppers in Asia Pacific said they are inclined to abandon their shopping carts if their preferred delivery options are not offered, a survey by DHL found.

The survey also found that shoppers in the region value shipment journeys as 82% want to have end-to-end tracking of all shipments.

Around 18% also want other delivery options aside from home deliveries, as seen more in China with 45% wanting to have the option to leave the parcel with a neighbour or other safe place, parcel locker or parcel shop.

"People's online shopping behaviours are changing. As they shop more online domestically and internationally, they are exposed to many more options and want to have a sense of control over their purchases,” Pablo Ciano, CEO of DHL eCommerce said.

“They now have even higher expectations towards e-commerce companies as well as delivery providers, including how they want the shipments to be delivered and the industry's stance towards sustainability,” he added.

Nearly half of the respondents also said they are frustrated over long delivery times and high costs.
