Koala brings home Retail Asia Awards win for CHILLAX sofa

Its sofa adapted to the Japanese lifestyle by making the furniture minimally.

Koala Sleep Japan took home the Retail Product of the Year - Japan at the recently held Retail Asia Awards for the successful launch of its product Koala Sofa CHILLAX in Japan.

Koala Sofa CHILLAX was born through the adaptation of the Australian lifestyle, where multi-purpose furniture is placed in the living room and people use the room as they like, into the Japanese living space.

Understanding that many Japanese homes are small compared to those in Australia, the key challenge for Koala was to make efficient use of small spaces for the furniture.

As such, Koala made CHILLAX to allow conversion into a single bed or a three-seater sofa by removing the backrests and armrests. In addition, the back side of the armrests can be used as a wooden mini desk. The sofa is very useful for both remote work and rest, and the assembly of the furniture is only done in two steps.

Koala mentioned that whilst it is an Australian brand, it has done a lot of research to develop a product that fits the Japanese lifestyle.

“The moment you sit down, you will feel the joy of chill time flowing through your heart. [CHILLAX] is also a very comfortable place to lean back and take a breather, or to lie down for a while to read or take a nap,” the company said.
