IKEA-anchored ‘meeting place’ begins construction in India

It is expected to open in late 2025.

Ingka Centres held a groundbreaking ceremony to signal the start of the main construction works for the new IKEA-anchored “meeting place” in Gurugram in Haryana state which is planned to open in late 2025.

In a statement, Ingka Centres, a part of the Ingka Group that includes IKEA Retail and Ingka Investments, said the new meeting place has a total investment of around $406m (€400m) and is expected to generate around 2,500 jobs.

The new meeting place has a total area of around 159,000 square metres (sqm) over nine floors, offering food and beverage and edutainment learning spaces, and retail spaces, including a new IKEA store spanning 28,000 sqm.

Expected to attract 20 million customers annually, the meeting place will also have a 30,000 sqm of high-class office space on top of the retail area, which will have an independent entry and direct connection to the food and entertainment offerings.

Its development will follow sustainable construction techniques and will pursue a LEED Gold pre-certification, utilising renewable energy. It also aims to fully use water recycling and push for efficient waste management, and recycling initiatives.

“This project will not only establish Gurugram as one of the newest shopping destinations but also boost employment opportunities in the region. This will also attract further investment in the state of Haryana. Government support plays a vital role in enabling ‘Ease of Doing Business in the state and this project is yet another validation of our development plans for the region,” said Haryana Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal.
