Cainiao opens new facilities to expedite Lazada cross-border logistics

Customers in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines can get their parcels as early as three days. 

Alibaba Group Holding Limited logistics arm, Cainiao Network, launched various logistics facilities in China that will improve Lazada’s cross-border logistics efficiency by 50% and support local small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The new facilities in the cities of Yiwu, Shenzhen, and Quanzhou will enable customers in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines to receive their parcels as fast as three days after placing their orders in Lazada.

“Today, consumers have greater expectations when it comes to logistics efficiency, especially for trendy products popularized by social media and influencers,” said Shawn Louis, executive general manager for Cainiao and chief LazGlobal Logistics Officer.

“We believe that an efficient and comprehensive logistics network is key to facilitating global trade and supporting small businesses and online merchants to tap on a booming Southeast Asian market,” he added.

The distribution centres offer doorstep pickup, distribution, and cross-border shipping; and the status of the delivery will be synced real-time in Cainiao’s parcel tracking system. This is compared to the process prior where merchants had to deliver their goods to the warehouses.

Cainiao has also introduced community-based parcel consolidation stations in April to support 11,500 SMEs in 20 cities, where local SMEs are allowed to deliver their goods to nearby stations and the consolidated parcels will be brought by Cainiao to one of the distribution centres.
