Skechers Hong Kong triumphs as Footwear Retailer of the Year - Hong Kong at Retail Asia Awards 2024

In a year marked by global economic fluctuations and intense market competition, Skechers Hong Kong has not only survived but thrived, achieving unprecedented growth that has solidified its position as a leader in the footwear industry. This remarkable performance has earned Skechers the coveted title of Footwear Retailer of the Year - Hong Kong at the Retail Asia Awards 2024, a testament to its strategic innovation and persistent excellence in a dynamic environment.

Despite the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic, Skechers Hong Kong experienced a significant surge in its operations, achieving a 41% year-on-year revenue growth and a 46% increase in profits. In 2023 alone, over 1.3 million pairs of shoes were sold, meaning that one in every seven people in Hong Kong now owns a pair of Skechers. This substantial growth has propelled Skechers to become the third-ranked sports brand in the city, further establishing its reputation in the competitive APAC and Greater China regions.

Skechers' success is not only just in sales but also in recognition, having garnered several prestigious awards throughout the year. These accolades include the Quality Tourism Services Association 2022 Outstanding Quality Employee Service Award, the Mame Share 2022 Favorite Children's Clothing and Shoe Brand Award, and the HKTVmall - Outstanding Market Acumen Award, amongst others.

A key strategy in Skechers' success has been its brick-and-mortar expansion. With over 150 points of sale across Hong Kong, Skechers has capitalised on the growing trend of consumers returning to offline shopping by relocating many of its stores to larger and more optimal locations. This strategic move not only enhances convenience for customers but also offers them a broader range of products and an elevated shopping experience.

Moreover, Skechers has effectively bridged the gap between online and offline channels, providing a seamless one-stop service where customers can place orders online and conveniently pick them up or return items at physical stores. This integration ensures a cohesive shopping journey across both platforms, enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty.

The accelerated digitalisation initiative has also played a crucial role in Skechers' strategy. The company has enhanced its online presence by focusing on the improvement of online stores and livestream capabilities, along with the development and optimisation of the Skechers mobile application. In just 24 months, the mobile app registered over 400,000 users in Hong Kong alone.

Innovative brand storytelling continues to be a significant aspect of Skechers' marketing strategy. By engaging both global and local brand ambassadors and utilising various advertising channels, Skechers maintains effective control over marketing expenses whilst boosting brand awareness. The introduction of the Hands-Free Slip-ins technology in popular collections like Ultra Flex and GO WALK has further cemented Skechers' reputation for innovation and style.

Skechers' commitment to the community is evident through its philanthropic initiatives, which include organising walking events and a month-long Corporate Social Responsibility activity that distributed gifts and goodie bags to the elderly. Additionally, in partnership with the People Service Centre, Skechers donated school shoes to students in need, emphasising its dedication to making a positive impact on local communities.
