Malaysia Airports (Niaga) scores two awards at Retail Asia Awards 2025

It was awarded Brand Transformation of the Year - Malaysia and Travel Retailer of the Year - Malaysia.

Malaysia Airports (Niaga) Sdn Bhd, the operator behind the Eraman retail brand, has clinched two accolades at the Retail Asia Awards 2025: Brand Transformation of the Year - Malaysia and Travel Retailer of the Year - Malaysia. 

Winning the Brand Transformation of the Year - Malaysia, the company was recognised for Eraman’s transformation of the Eraman Duty Free Mall at the main terminal of KLIA Terminal 1. What was once a conventional airport retail space has been elevated into a luxury-forward, tech-enabled destination that rivals high-end urban malls. 

Central to this transformation is the significant expansion of brand offerings, with Eraman now featuring over 550 internationally recognised names across beauty, fragrances, gourmet chocolates, and spirits. Notably, it also introduced the Charlotte Tilbury store — the first in any airport across Southeast Asia. 

To meet the needs of today’s digital-savvy travellers, Eraman implemented advanced duty free self-checkout kiosks across key outlets. The adoption of contactless retail technology reflects Eraman’s wider digital strategy focussed on enhancing convenience, customisation, and transactional speed. 

In a nod to Malaysia’s rich culture, Eraman also curated a unique selection of locally made products, giving travellers an authentic taste of homegrown craftsmanship. 

The grand launch of the new CP Duty Free Mall generated RM10m in PR value, whilst the revitalised retail space at KLIA is already being recognised as a model of excellence by regional duty-free operators, with plans underway to replicate this success across other airports in Malaysia. 

This expansion will ensure a consistent, world-class shopping experience across multiple terminals, further strengthening Eraman’s market presence and setting new industry standards. 

Beyond numbers, Eraman’s success lies in its ability to reimagine the role of airport retail—not just as a revenue stream, but as an integral part of the passenger journey. 

The presence of luxury-first brands, intuitive technologies, loyalty programmes tailored to user behavior, and an emphasis on cultural storytelling through local products all work in harmony to create a travel retail ecosystem that is distinctly Malaysian, yet globally competitive.

In 2024, Eraman achieved a 14% year-over-year revenue increase, driven by diversified sales strategies and the successful execution of reset projects at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and other airports managed by Malaysia Airports. The company also expanded its retail footprint with the launch of new duty-free emporiums at KLIA and Kota Kinabalu, offering modern and immersive shopping environments. At KLIA, the brand portfolio has grown significantly, showcasing a wider selection of renowned international and local names.
