FairPrice Group lands two wins at Retail Asia Awards 2025

It took home the Specialty Store of the Year - Singapore and the Sustainability Initiative of the Year - Singapore awards.

Major retail group FairPrice was honoured with two accolades at the 2025 iteration of the Retail Asia Awards for the success of its FairPrice Finest store in Clarke Quay in redefining the premium grocery experience, as well as its FairPrice City Square Mall in pioneering sustainable retailing.

FairPrice Finest Clarke Quay, which brought the company the Specialty Store of the Year - Singapore title, pays tribute to the unique heritage of the riverside quay and its transformation from a trading port to a day-to-night lifestyle destination, with a curated offering that stands as a testament to innovation, customer-centric excellence, and groundbreaking retail concepts.

The company has curated an exclusive line of merchandise with local artist Kelly Ser, who specialises in contemporary art inspired by Singapore’s culture and heritage. Partnering with homegrown local vendors has been a key tenet of the store. The store showcases over 30 local brands, including its integrated food hall, where 100% of the vendors are homegrown. Customers can also sample heritage cocktails crafted with local brands.

The mall’s integrated supermarket-food hall also allows customers to transition seamlessly from shopping for fresh ingredients to enjoying curated meals and drinks. Its grocery retail area has also been designed to wrap around the perimeter of the Food Hall, providing a convenient and uninterrupted shopping experience for everyday customers to shop a full grocery basket. For customers who have the time, they can enjoy a 360-degree discovery around the store.

FairPrice Finest Clarke Quay also stands out for its first-of-its-kind experiential elements. Inspired by Clarke Quay’s maritime heritage, the store’s design features corten steel, glass blocks, and terracotta to evoke a dynamic warehouse-to-dock experience.

Since its opening, the store has become a cornerstone of this refreshed locale, serving over 650,000 visitors. Surpassing sales projections by 1.2x, its success reflects its resonance with diverse audiences.

Championing a greener tomorrow

Reopened as Singapore’s most sustainable supermarket, FairPrice City Square Mall leads the charge in eco-conscious retail with its energy-efficient operations, zero-waste initiatives, and efforts to promote sustainable choices. Combining innovation with environmental stewardship, it empowers shoppers to make greener choices.

The mall incorporates cutting-edge energy-saving technologies that significantly lower its environmental footprint. Its chillers are equipped with doors, a feature projected to save 40% in energy use. Real-time energy monitoring systems, LED lighting with motion sensors, and energy-efficient refrigeration collectively reduce the store’s energy usage by 20% compared to traditional outlets. Additionally, backloading chillers optimise stocking efficiency and productivity.

Its furnishings, shopping carts, trolleys, and point-of-sale materials are also made from recycled or sustainably produced natural materials and plastics. The introduction of unique features like Singapore’s first BioHome Refill Station and Community Bag Racks promotes waste reduction and sustainable shopping.

At the same time, FairPrice City Square Mall empowers customers to make environmentally and socially conscious choices when grocery shopping. There are over 400 sustainable products, such as responsibly made household staples with reduced packaging and the widest range of local fresh produce delivered within 24 hours from farm to store, ensuring uncompromised freshness and quality.

It has also collaborated with the World Wide Fund for Nature to offer in-store education on sustainable tips and practices to further guide customers in making sustainable choices.

With these efforts, the mall has recorded the lowest carbon footprint amongst all FairPrice stores, with projected energy savings of up to 40% for chillers by installing doors on them. Sales have also risen by more than 8% since the store’s reopening despite ongoing renovations in the shopping mall.

The success of the FairPrice City Square Mall earned FairPrice Group the win in the Sustainability Initiative of the Year - Singapore category.
