Uni ballpen brand creator Mitsubishi Pencil Company buys LAMY

LAMY’s operations in Heidelberg will remain.

Mitsubishi Pencil Co Ltd., creator of the Uni and Uni-ball pen brands, has taken over pen manufacturer C. Josef Lamy GmbH and the LAMY brand.

Through the acquisition, all of LAMY’s shares have been sold to Mitsubishi Pencil.

However, LAMY’s headquarters and production facilities in Heidelberg will remain. And any upcoming investments will go to further development of the company and its brands.

Mitsubishi Pencil has cited the acquisition as part of its expansive growth for digital writing and international sales, as well as its technological development, complementing its strengths with LAMY’s in the premium segment.

“We believe that the vision and corporate culture of Lamy and Mitsubishi Pencil harmonise perfectly. We are also confident that the acquisition of the company Lamy will provide a strong combined platform for future growth and increased shareholder value for both LAMY and Mitsubishi Pencil,” Shigehiko Suhara, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Pencil Co Ltd, said.

Currently, LAMY has a presence in over 80 countries with around 15,600 sales outlets and 200 mono-brand stores.
