FMCG sector firms in Top 250 retailers post 4.7% YoY revenue growth

The 136 companies under the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector in the Top 250 retailers recorded a 4.7% year-on-year revenue increase in 2021, the lowest rate amongst the four product sectors.
In the Global Powers of Retailing 2023 report, Deloitte said FMCG accounted for 63.8% of the total retail revenues amongst the Top retailers at $3.6t, down by 2.6 percentage points. Hardlines and leisure goods comprised 21.4% of the total, followed by apparel and accessories at 9.3%, and diversified at 5.4%
Companies in the sector posted an average net profit margin of 2.6%, increasing by one percentage point from the previous year.
Deloitte added that the top five retailers from the sector that made it into the Top 10 rankings comprised a 33% share of the total retail revenue for the sector, similar to last year.
The Top 5 companies are Walmart Inc. (15.9%), Costco Wholesale (5.4%), Schwarz Group (4.3%), The Kroger Co., (3.8%), and Walgreen Boots Alliance (3.4%).
Meanwhile, 11 FMCG firms out of the 136 saw revenue growth of over 20%, led by Japan’s Seven & i Holding with a 54.7% increase.
