Shopee partners with SIRS to make e-commerce more accessible

E-commerce platform Shopee has partnered with Nanyang Polytechnic’s Singapore Institute of Retail Studies (SIRS), to offer full-day e-commerce workshops.

The workshops aim to empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs), start-ups, and individuals by providing them with the necessary support to grow their businesses. Through these full-day workshops, participants will gain deeper insights into the e-commerce ecosystem, as well as hear from industry experts on best-in-class practices on content creation, revenue, logistics and sales management.

The content of the workshops was jointly conceptualised by SIRS and Shopee University, a seller support initiative launched by Shopee in 2015 across its seven markets, to assist local entrepreneurs and businesses in setting up their online businesses and helping them succeed in an increasingly competitive e-commerce environment.

These workshops consist of an on boarding session and a marketing session. The on boarding session provides new and current sellers with an overview of the e-commerce ecosystem, as well as tips on how to improve store performance and content creation. These tips and best practices serve as a way to allow sellers to become well-versed with the industry and acts as a catalyst to turn their passion into a viable business. The marketing session equips participants with branding, design and digital marketing skills that they can apply to optimise online store presence.

“Keeping up with the fast-changing e-commerce landscape is no easy feat. At Shopee, we are committed to supporting our sellers and aspiring entrepreneurs by equipping them with the necessary skills and resources to succeed. This partnership with SIRS has provided us with a platform to expand our reach and empower more SMEs to take their businesses to the next level,” said Junjie Zhou, chief commercial officer, Shopee.

“The Singapore government is consistently pushing for individuals and businesses to embrace technology and continuously upskill to remain relevant. Together with Shopee, a leader in the local e-commerce space, we aim to empower all participants with the essential knowledge for setting up a successful online store,” said Megan Ong, director of SIRS.
