Australia's Easter-labelled online candy SKUs down 10 % YoY amidst cost-of-living crisis

Still, seasonal chocolate sales are expected to outpace other chocolate confectionery types in the country.

Easter-labelled candy online stocking-keeping units (SKUs) in Australia have plummeted by nearly 10% year-on-year due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

Carl Quash III, head of Food and Nutrition at Euromonitor International, pointed out a contrasting trend in other regions where the number of Easter-labelled online candy SKUs is on the rise, driven by seasonal chocolate innovations.

In the US, online candy SKUs surged by 28%, whilst in the UK, they more than 100%, indicating a recovery from inflationary pressures.

“But in Australia, the number of Easter-labelled online candy SKUs fell by nearly 10% from the same period a year ago due to the continued impact of the cost-of-living crisis,” said Quash III.

“Though, seasonal chocolate sales are expected to grow the fastest among other chocolate confectionery types in the country,” the expert added.

Quash III predicted that this year’s Easter best sellers will include childhood favourite flavours, innovative chocolate products, and value packs, with a trend towards nostalgic flavours like caramel and vanilla.

“I’m seeing the novel or newstalgic flavour trend and the enhanced value proposition trend executed in Easter candy innovations this year,” he said.

Quash III also noted the emergence of novel flavour trends and enhanced value propositions in Easter candy innovations.

He said that confection brands such as Peeps are collaborating with partners like Rice Krispies and Icee to introduce new yet familiar flavours.

Additionally, Easter egg hunt variety packs were expected to streamline Easter preparations, saving both time and money for shoppers.

Quash III noted a resurgence in new product launches as renowned retailers continue to expand their Easter collections with a focus on value.
