JD.com taps Mastercard to expand global commerce strategy on payments, cross-border trade

JD.com and Mastercard have announced a strategic partnership to strengthen global payments, cross-border commerce, and AI-powered retail solutions.
The companies said the collaboration will combine Mastercard’s payment infrastructure with JD.com’s retail, logistics, and supply chain capabilities to build a more connected and secure digital commerce ecosystem.
Under the agreement, the two companies will work to enhance global payment connectivity by developing improved infrastructure supporting JD.com’s international business operations.
The partnership will also explore a cross-border supply chain finance ecosystem designed to support small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), improving access to financing and enabling smoother participation in global trade.
The companies plan to expand payment options for international travelers in China, including broader acceptance of international cards across JD.com platforms and retail channels. Enhancements will also target checkout processes, shopping experiences, and tax refund services for overseas visitors.
In addition, the partnership will explore agentic AI-powered purchasing solutions through Mastercard’s “Agent Pay” capabilities, alongside potential expansion of co-branded card offerings.
