Grab to acquire Delivery Hero's Foodpanda Taiwan in $600m deal

Taiwan marks Grab’s first market outside Southeast Asia.

Grab Holdings Limited will acquire Delivery Hero SE’s foodpanda business in Taiwan for $600m in cash.

The deal, on a cash-free and debt-free basis, is expected to close in the second half of 2026, pending regulatory approval.

Grab CEO Anthony Tan said the acquisition marks the company’s first market outside Southeast Asia and its ninth overall. “Sharing a deep Asian heritage, we value the same traditions that define Taiwan’s rich food culture,” he said. “This local understanding is why we’ve served our consumers and partners better than anyone else, in every market we’ve entered over the last eight years.

The acquisition will give Grab a presence in 21 cities across Taiwan and combines Grab’s AI-driven platform with foodpanda’s established network. In 2025, foodpanda Taiwan generated around $1.8b in GMV and was profitable on an adjusted EBITDA basis.

“The foodpanda team in Taiwan has built a fantastic business and we thank them for their hard work,” said Niklas Östberg, CEO and co-founder of Delivery Hero. “A transaction like this is a significant undertaking, but we are delighted to have agreed this cash deal, which reflects strength and attractiveness of the business in Taiwan.”

Grab said it aims to contribute to Taiwan’s economic growth by providing flexible earning opportunities for individuals and small businesses whilst adhering to local regulations.

The company’s Southeast Asia ecosystem generated $18.8b in annual economic value, representing 0.5% of the region’s GDP, a model it intends to replicate in Taiwan.

The Grab app will introduce AI-powered features to enhance the experience for consumers, merchants, and delivery partners.

For consumers, this includes personalised restaurant recommendations, a wider selection of cuisines, and more reliable delivery through GrabMaps, the company’s hyperlocal mapping technology.

Merchants will also gain access to digital tools and analytics, including the AI Merchant Assistant, real-time sales data, and marketing support to expand their customer base.

Moreover, delivery partners will benefit from flexible earning opportunities, in-app safety features, insurance coverage, and tools to optimize their income.

Grab will also showcase Taiwan’s vibrant food culture to its 50 million monthly transacting users across more than 900 cities worldwide.

Until the deal closes, Delivery Hero will continue operating foodpanda Taiwan.

Grab targets full migration of users, merchants, and drivers to its app by early 2027.

The transaction is expected to contribute to Grab’s 2026 revenue guidance of $4.04–$4.10b and add at least $60m to Adjusted EBITDA by 2028.
