L Catterton acquires Kobe beef chain Kisshokichi

Kisshokichi runs 50 restaurants in Japan.

Investment firm L Catterton has acquired Kisshokichi, the world’s largest Kobe beef restaurant chain, with plans to rapidly expand the business both in Japan and internationally.

Kisshokichi, founded in 2008, operates around 50 locations and is the largest buyer of certified Kobe beef globally. Its centralized processing system allows efficient scaling while maintaining high quality.

Kobe beef, known for its marbling, tenderness, and flavor, continues to attract both locals and international tourists. With inbound tourism to Japan rising, L Catterton sees strong growth potential in the premium beef dining market.

L Catterton has backed several restaurant brands in the past, including Outback Steakhouse, P.F. Chang’s, and Mendocino Farms.
