Kolmar Korea develops hybrid composite sunscreen technology

This improves long UVA blocking efficiency by 24.8%

Kolmar Korea has unveiled "UV-DUO PLUS," a hybrid composite sunscreen stabilisation technology, which enhances UV protection and improves application.

The technology coats inorganic sunscreen particles with organic components, preventing ingredient aggregation and ensuring even dispersion. This resolves a key issue in hybrid sunscreens, where gaps in the UV protection film compromise effectiveness.

Clinical tests show UV-DUO PLUS improves long-wavelength UV (long UVA) blocking efficiency by 24.8% in the 400 nm range compared to conventional sunscreens. Kolmar Korea has patented the technology in South Korea and is pursuing international patents.

The company, which holds over 70% of the Korean sunscreen market, continues to expand globally. It operates the industry's first "UV Tech Innovation Lab" and has more than 70 UV-related patents. Its second U.S. plant in Pennsylvania, set to open in the first half of this year, will boost North American production capacity from 180 million to 300 million units.

"Whilst hybrid sunscreens that mix two ingredients are already available, no product has achieved a perfect integration of organic and inorganic components," a Kolmar Korea spokesperson said. "With UV-DUO PLUS technology, we aim to lead K-beauty suncare innovation and expand our reach in both domestic and international markets."
