ION Orchard launches Singapore's 1st Sustainable Takeaway Programme

Sustainable Takeaway will run from 1 April to 30 September 2024.

ION Orchard, in cooperation with environmental services Muuse, has launched the Sustainable Takeaway, a pilot programme employing a closed-loop reusable system to reduce single-use waste.

The shopping mall is the first in Singapore to create a holistic programme for single-use waste management.

Under the programme, supported by the SG Eco Fund, shoppers can borrow reusable cups from five participating cafés at ION Orchard and food containers at a Muuse booth near Food Opera by scanning a serialised QR code, then return the reusable containers within 30 days.

Participating tenants for Sustainable Takeaway include Common Man Coffee Roasters, Food Opera, Plain Vanilla, Starbucks, Toast Box, and The 1827 Clipper Tea Co.

“Changing the habits and lifestyles of our shoppers takes time. At ION Orchard, we believe that sustainability starts with us, and we are committed to making sustainability more accessible for our shoppers. The small steps that we take in our daily lives can collectively contribute towards a more sustainable future,” Yeo Mui Hong, CEO of Orchard Turn Developments, said.
