UNIQLO launches campaign to urge customer participation in sustainability initiatives

Customers can buy items made from recycled materials and join coastal clean-ups.

UNIQLO launched the Join: The Power of Clothing campaign aimed at encouraging its customers to actively participate in the company’s environmental sustainability initiatives in Singapore.

In a statement, UNIQLO said customers can participate through Buy and JOIN wherein they can access the company’s expanded lineup of items including the DRY-Ex T-shirts made of recycled polyester from plastic bottles, and Blue Cycle Jeans that use up to 99% less water in the process, amongst others.

Customers can also take part in the company’s initiatives through Learn and JOIN which allows them to participate and get involved in marine protection. Some of the activities include coastal clean-ups in partnership with the local social enterprise The Green Nudge.

Coastal clean-ups sessions will be held on 17 September from 8:30 am to 11 am, and 24 September from 2:30 pm to 5 pm at Yishun Dam.

It added that there would be a dedicated website where customers can learn about environmental issues.

“These initiatives aim to raise awareness among customers on global environmental challenges such as ocean pollution, and to inspire actions that make the world a better place,” UNIQLO said.

UNIQLO also pledged a cash donation of S$20,000 to the Garden City Fund, a registered charity and Institution of Public Character established by the National Parks Board, to ensure marine biodiversity protection in Singapore.

The donation will be used for the charity’s Plant-A-Coral, Seed-A-Reef Programme supporting habitat improvement projects at the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park, UNIQLO said in a statement.
