Koala Sleep Japan wins Furniture Retailer of the Year - Japan award

Koala’s product range and customer service ensure customers can rest easy.

Koala Sleep Japan provides customers with a comfortable lifestyle from sleep to daily life, and was one of the first bedding and furniture brands in Japan to adopt the direct-to-consumer (D2C) business model.

Founded in Australia in 2015, Koala made its way to Japan in 2017 and prides itself on consistently providing customers with the best-possible online shopping experience. Koala provides free returns and refunds for 120 days within Tokyo and Osaka, free shipping excluding Okinawa Prefecture and remote islands, as well as a 10-year warranty on Koala Mattress and a 5-year warranty on Koala Furniture to give customers peace of mind and allow them to try their products without physically visiting their showrooms.

Since 2017, Koala has partnered with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to donate over AUS$1.3m from sales of Koala mattresses, sofas and sofa beds to protect endangered koalas, green sea turtles and glossy black cockatoos.

In December 2019, Koala started selling pillows, later adding bed frames to their product range in June 2020. Following this, Koala began creating furniture, such as sofas and sofabeds, to provide customers with an even wider range of high quality products to add further comfort to their lives.

Thanks to its ability to persevere and expand its product range to meet the needs of its customers amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Koala Sleep Japan secured the Furniture Retailer of the Year - Japan award at the recently concluded Retail Asia Awards, presented by Retail Asia. Now in its 16th year, the Retail Asia Awards recognise exceptional retailers, projects, and executives who have introduced remarkable initiatives and solutions that have shaped the retail industry.

In March 2021, Koala introduced its ultralight duvet and all-season eucalyptus bed linens, made from high-functional materials that are both comfortable and environmentally friendly. The Koala ultralight duvet uses ClusterLoft®︎fiber balls, which are polyester fiber balls that imitate the structure of feathers, in the inner lining, solving problems such as allergies that regular feather-lined duvets have. The products are highly suited to modern society where hygiene and health are top priorities.

Koala plans to further develop its product range in Japan, announcing in May 2021 that it would be launching the Koala Work Desk and matching Koala Work Chair, which are ideal for customers working from home.
