Watsons Malaysia Wins Health & Beauty Retailer of the Year - Malaysia and Digital Initiative of the Year - Malaysia at the Retail Asia Awards

The No. 1 health and beauty retailer in Malaysia continues to showcase dedication to innovation, sustainability, and exceptional customer experience.

Watsons Malaysia, a subsidiary of A.S. Watson Group, has been awarded two Retail Asia Awards 2023, namely Health & Beauty Retailer of the Year - Malaysia and Digital Initiative of the Year - Malaysia, for its #SuperKakiWatsons Fast Track to Fame campaign.

The Retail Asia Awards, organised by Retail Asia Publishing Pte Ltd, is one of the most prestigious retail awards in the Asia Pacific region, recognising the best and most innovative retail brands in the industry.

With over 700 stores in the country, Watsons Malaysia is the No. 1 O+O health and beauty retailer in Malaysia offering a wide range of health and beauty products, including skincare, makeup, hair care, personal care, and health supplements, both in-store and online.

Watsons Malaysia has differentiated itself in the highly competitive health and beauty retail market by building a strong customer base with its loyalty members and activating multiple member campaigns throughout the year.

During festive seasons in Malaysia, Malaysians eagerly anticipate Watsons' annual brand films, such as #HappyBeautifulYear for Chinese New Year and Gaya Raya Luar Biasa for Raya in 2022 and garnered significant views and PR coverages. On top of that, Watsons drove members contests to win exciting prizes when they shop in-store and online by giving away cruise getaway, brand new cars, jewelries and shopping vouchers.

On top of that, Watsons Malaysia annually encourage Malaysians to stay active and lead a healthy lifestyle, by organising the most anticipated Watsons #GetActiveFest 2022 Zumba party, after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The event was attended by over 6,000 health enthusiasts, and a portion of the proceeds from tickets went towards the restoration of 2000 trees in Lower Kinabatangan, Sabah.

At Watsons, we believe in rewarding members when they shop with us. In 2022, Watsons celebrated its Watsons Club 12th anniversary and in conjunction with this celebration, Watsons launched the “Shop with Watsons and Walk Away with a Home” campaign by giving away a brand-new home and more rewards to its members.

Watsons Malaysia's commitment to sustainability has also been recognised, as the company continuously implemented several initiatives to reduce its environmental impact. This includes sustainable product choices, green partnerships, recycling programmes, and the opening of its first greener store at The Tropika, Bukit Jalil. Refill stations are also available in most key stores to meet consumer demand and local requirements to drive sustainable efforts. Over 600 sustainable choices products are also available in the store featuring clean beauty, refill, better packaging, and better ingredient products. Not only that, but Watsons also introduce the first recycling station in Malaysia where customers can bring back clean empty Watsons bottles and get a voucher for the next purchase.

On the other hand, Watsons Malaysia's Digital Initiative of the Year award recognises the company's innovative approach to digital technology, offering customers an exceptional online and mobile shopping experience.

In September 2022, Watsons launched it’s first #SuperkakiWatsons – Fast Track to Fame campaign. It leverages the power of social media and vlog content creation and has been designed to maximise reach and impact by encouraging Watsons' fans to showcase their state’s pride by creating their own video showcasing their state’s dialects for better representation.

To kickstart the campaign, Watsons' ambassadors provided a step-by-step guide for campaign activation. The brand also built an ‘instagrammable’ exclusive Super Kaki Watsons concept set up of the in-stores all over Malaysia for the UGC campaign and attributed to more footfalls to Watsons stores. Content creator uses Watsons Brand products to create their vlog in stores and submit it via a microsite where consumers were encouraged to cast their votes for their favorite videos.

Through its various member campaigns, events, and sustainable initiatives, Watsons Malaysia has set itself apart in the highly competitive health and beauty retail market in Malaysia. Furthermore, its innovative approach to digital technology has enabled it to reach a wider audience and offer an exceptional online and mobile shopping experience.
