Amorepacific, BASF partner to launch new technology to fight skin aging
It aims to meet the demand for deeper UV protection.
South Korea's Amorepacific has partnered with BASF to develop UV-R Pro, a new antioxidant UV protection technology designed to slow skin aging.
The two companies signed a joint development agreement on 13 March at Amorepacific’s headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
Unlike traditional sunscreens that block UV rays at the surface, UV-R Pro targets free radicals caused by UVA rays that penetrate deep into the skin and accelerate aging. Amorepacific’s R&I Center focused on creating an antioxidant system that stops these radicals from forming.
BASF’s Radical Skin Protection Factor (RSF) was used to test and verify the technology’s effectiveness. After several improvements, UV-R Pro is ready to be rolled out in Amorepacific’s sun care products, starting with its HERA line this April.
"Through our ongoing collaboration with BASF, a global leader in the chemical industry, Amorepacific will establish a new benchmark for selecting UV protection products that promote slowed skin aging for customers worldwide, and drive product innovation in the global sun care market," said Brian Byung-Fhy Suh, CTO of Amorepacific's R&I Center.
