Suntory Pepsi rolls out 100% recycled PET bottles in Thailand

PET bottles accounted for nearly 60% of soft drinks packaging volume in 2022.

Suntory Pepsi has launched 100% recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET) in Thailand, which is expected to drive other multinational and domestic beverage companies to follow, GlobalData reported.

According to GlobalData, PET bottles make up nearly 60% of soft drinks packaging volume in the country in 2022.

“PET bottles are the most widely used packaging format in the Thai soft drinks sector, with applications across all categories, particularly high-volume categories, such as packaged water and carbonates,” Tim Hill, Key Account Director at GlobalData Singapore, said.

“Despite the increasing use of sustainable aluminum and paper & board packaging in recent years, PET bottles will remain dominant in the sector through 2027*, given their good aesthetic, barrier-protection, and lightweight properties.”
