Taobao launches English interface in Singapore

The new interface includes SGD price conversion and AI-powered English product descriptions.

Chinese shopping platform Taobao has introduced an English-language interface for its app in Singapore, effective 11 September.

The update allows users to switch to English whilst shopping on the familiar Taobao app, making it easier for those who prefer English.

The new interface includes Singapore Dollar (SGD) price conversion, AI-powered English product descriptions, and a user-friendly design tailored to local habits. Initially, it will feature a curated selection of trending products, with plans to expand to more categories.

"The launch is a direct response to the market demand, reflecting our commitment to improving convenience and accessibility for our users," said Jean Zhao, country head of Taobao Singapore. "As this is our first major initiative to serve English-speaking users, we are diligently monitoring user feedback and continuously refining the app interface to enhance the user experience based on customer insights."

Meanwhile, Taobao is offering special benefits for Singapore consumers. New users can get up to $18 (RMB100) in vouchers for their first order on either interface. There’s also free international shipping on eligible orders over $37(RMB199) and free returns for the first order with the 'Local Returns' label, with a RMB20 fee for subsequent returns.
