Lunar New Year, Olympics drive JD.com’s sales growth

Turnover increased by over 50% year-on-year.

JD.com reported its sales turnover grew by more than 50% year-on-year from New Year’s Eve up to the 5th day of the first lunar month.

In particular, the Henan, Jiangxi, Hunan, and Anhui provinces showed sales increases of 87%, 86%, 64%, and 61%, respectively.

Over the same period, JD.com also said sales of the jewelry category with a tiger theme climbed by more than 50%. This improved from the ox-element products sold last year.

Moreover, toys with tiger features also rose ten-fold, whist sales of baby carriages, and cribs increased by 35.8%.

Aside from the lunar, JD.com reported that the Beijing Winter Olympics also led to a 322% year-on-year increase in the overall turnover of ski sports products.

Ice sports products and speed skates sharpeners also grew 553% and 420%, respectively.

In addition, JD.com found that there is a 90% increase in the search volume for the mascot Bing Dwen Dwen, sales ANTA down jackets increased by 203%, and turnover of Descente down jackets increased by 196 percent YOY.
