JCCU launches emergency donations for Ukrainian children

Donations will be used partly to send relief to the crisis-hit Ukraine.

The Japanese Consumers' Co-operative Union (JCCU) along with a number of its member cooperatives nationwide has launched emergency donations to support children in Ukraine amidst conflict with Russia, the company said in a press release.

The union and its cooperatives have been asking their members and staff for donations, which will be sent to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Efforts are already spreading through collecting donations at co-op stores and through home-delivery services.

The donations will be used for programs to protect children in Ukraine such as delivering safe water by trucks to conflict-hit areas, transporting essential supplies for health, sanitation, and education in emergencies as close as possible to communities near the front lines.

The campaign is expected to continue through 2022.
