Health-focused snacking trend drives freeze-dried fruit demand
Clean labels and simple ingredients strongly influence buying decisions.
Consumers are increasingly prioritising protein, fiber, and nutrient-dense foods, boosting demand for functional snacking options such as freeze-dried fruit, according to GlobalData.
The shift is being influenced by appetite changes linked to GLP-1 medications, with shoppers opting for smaller portions and healthier snacks. GlobalData’s Q4 2025 survey shows 67% of consumers prioritise health and wellbeing when buying food.
Freeze-dried fruit is gaining traction due to its long shelf life, which reduces food waste and supports cost-conscious shopping. In the same survey, 45% of consumers defined “good value” in snacks as long-lasting, time-saving, or larger portions.
GlobalData analyst Jessica Butler said brands should emphasise affordability, larger pack formats, and long shelf life to stay competitive in a cost-sensitive market.
“Brands should amplify this by making longevity and convenience highly visible on pack—for example, long best-before dates, pantry friendly, resealable, on the go, etc,” she said. “The lightweight nature of freeze-dried formats also gives brands room to compete with larger-looking packs and multi-serve options without significantly increasing costs.”
Clean-label positioning is also shaping product development in the category. GlobalData’s Q3 2025 survey found that 77% of global consumers consider simple ingredients an essential or desirable feature, highlighting the importance of transparent labeling and minimal ingredient lists in influencing purchase decisions.
Additionally, brands are also expanding into indulgence-led formats to widen the appeal of freeze-dried fruit beyond health-focused consumers. GlobalData’s Q1 2026 survey found 56% of consumers prefer sweet or fruity flavors in snacks and confectionery.
Freeze-dried fruit is positioned for continued growth as consumers balance health, taste, and value. Brands are expected to compete through clean labeling, indulgent flavor innovation, and strong value messaging, particularly in a cost-conscious environment.
“Overall, rising concerns and growing demand for healthier foods, even in traditionally indulgent categories like snacks, are making freeze-dried fruit a desirable option that is poised to grow in the years ahead,” said Butler. “The opportunity for brands is to respond with appropriate innovation, including clear labeling and credible health claims, bold flavors and indulgent formats, and reinforced value cues through larger pack options and long best-before dates, to win in a cost-conscious market.”
