IKEA opens small-format store in Eastern Beijing as part of global expansion
This marks IKEA’s fifth store in Beijing.
Ingka Group, IKEA’s largest retailer, has opened a new small-format store in eastern Beijing, continuing its global push to expand into urban and local markets.
The 1,500-square-metre store, located in the Wangfujing WellTown shopping centre in Tongzhou District, offers more than 3,000 home furnishing products.
This marks IKEA’s fifth store in Beijing. The format is designed for city living, offering tailored home solutions, one-on-one planning support, and a curated food selection.
“Beijing has always been one of our key markets in China,” said Pontus Erntell, CEO of IKEA China. “Just a few weeks after opening a small store in Shenzhen, we are now bringing IKEA closer to a new community in the capital and, with further expansion both physically and digitally, to many more people across China.”
The launch is part of a wider rollout by Ingka Group, which has opened 21 new IKEA locations worldwide since the start of the year across Europe, North America, and Asia. Store sizes range from compact urban outlets to large-format sites.
Global Commercial Manager Javier Quiñones said the expansion reflects a flexible approach to retail, noting that “one solution doesn’t fit all.” “We are getting closer to more people than ever, whilst continuously learning how to optimise our offer and presence.”
Recent openings include IKEA’s first store in Huntsville, Alabama, new small-format stores in Phoenix, and a planned city store in Los Angeles. The company is also testing partnerships with Best Buy stores in Florida and Texas to sell IKEA products through third-party retail locations.
Ingka Group is investing €5b over three years to expand and upgrade IKEA stores across most of its 32 global markets.
