Tiffany & Co. unveils 'bone cuff'-inspired flagship in Beijing
Four-storey glass fins define the flagship designed by MVRDV
Tiffany & Co. has unveiled a new flagship in Beijing’s Taikoo-Li Sanlitun district, featuring a four-story glass façade inspired by Elsa Peretti’s iconic 'Bone Cuff'.
Designed by architecture firm MVRDV, the building's facade is decorated with translucent, textured glass fins that rise vertically up the full four-storey height of the building.
“When viewed from an angle, the layering effect of the dense glass fins amplifies the effects of the light, highlighting the façade’s shape”, said MVRDV founding partner Jacob van Rijs.
At night, the store is illuminated in the group’s iconic Tiffany Blue, giving the store a diffuse glow.
Lighting modules are also built directly into the brackets that hold the glass fins, minimising the presence of hardware that might distract from the subtle light effects created by the glass, according to the architecture firm’s statement.
It is the fifth in a series of facade designs created by MVRDV for Tiffany.
