Thai consumers prefer to pay using e-wallets, cash for online transactions

Preference in payment methods varies in regions.

A report by YouGov showed that e-wallets and cash on delivery are the most popular modes of payment for online shopping transactions amongst Thai consumers with around 50% and 49% of customers using them, respectively.

The report said some of the fintech services widely used for online shopping include TrueMoney Wallet, Rabbit LINE Pay, Lazada Wallet, ShopeePay and PayPal.

Meanwhile, only 39% use mobile banking, followed by PromptPay (33%), Credit card (19%), Internet banking (19%), Internet banking (17%), debit card (14%), and ATM bank transfer (6%).

In the Bangkok Metropolitan Region, e-wallets (55%) and credit cards (33%) are the most popular payment methods for online shopping.

Cash on delivery is the most preferred payment method for consumers in the southern (57%) and Northern (55%) regions, but only 47% use it in the Bangkok Metropolitan region.

PromptPay is more popular in the Northern region (39%) compared to the Central Region (28%), and Bangkok Metropolitan (30%).
