Around 9 in 10 S’poreans shop more online: report

A total of 70% of shoppers consider online shopping as indispensable from their daily life.

A total of 85% of Singaporean consumers are now spending more online than in stores, according to a survey by e-commerce platform Lazada.

In a Regional eCommerce Consumer Study conducted with Milieu Insight, Lazada said 70% of respondents from Singapore consider online shopping as “indispensable from their routines,” and 96% said that it is important that they can purchase items they need through digital channels.

Digital commerce has taken hold as an everyday convenience in Singapore,” Lazada said.

The report also found that around one in two of 46% said online shopping became important to them in the last two years probably due to the pandemic.

It also found that shoppers from Singapore are looking for a marketplace that is “guided by trusted experience and products that provide a worry-free transaction,” with respondents showing high preference for reviews(61%), authentic products (54%), and secure payment options (53%).

Lazada also noted that the high preference for peer ratings and reviews, and secure payment options, indicates that trust remains as one of the key considerations when choosing a platform to buy.

Milieu in January surveyed 6,000 online shoppers, consisting of 1,000 respondents each from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
