Walmart considering e-commerce partnerships in India

WalmartT is reported to be “actively considering” ways to partner with India’s various e-commerce players such as Flipkart, Snapdeal, ShopClues, Grofers and Bigbasket to enter the country’s growing online retail market.

This would pit the company against its online retailing competitor, Amazon, who recently emerged as the most-visited e-commerce site in India.

In an interview with Business Standard, Rajneesh Kumar, vice-president and head, corporate affairs, Walmart India, said: “Several businesses in the e-commerce space have approached us to become our members and we are processing those requests.”

If this is the case, it would be the first time a foreign multi-brand retail chain is entering into partnerships with e-commerce companies for B2C in India following relaxed regulation by the Indian authorities.

Walmart has been in India for eight years but its operations in the country have so far been B2B.
