South Korea’s major retailers post 4.4% sales jump in January

Online sales rose across all product categories.

South Korea’s 26 major retailers hit a total sales jump of 4.4% year on year in January, with online sales up by 8.2%, according to its Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources.

Online sales rose across all product categories, including food (+7.7%), apparel (+10.1%), and cosmetics (+15.5%).

However, offline sales fell 0.6%. Offline sales at department stores (+13.4%) and convenience stores (+0.8%) posted growth, whilst large supermarkets (-18.8%) and SSMs (- 4.4%) declined.
