JD Food Delivery hires 150,000 full-time riders

It also launched $278m welfare upgrade.

JD Food Delivery has grown its full-time rider team to over 150,000 as of June and is investing $278m (RMB2b) to improve working conditions ahead of the summer peak.

The company will provide monthly allowances during extreme weather and distribute 150,000 new electric bikes designed for comfort and efficiency. Riders who complete 3,000 orders within 90 days can get a full refund on the bikes. The program has already launched in Beijing, Changsha, and Nanjing, with a nationwide rollout underway.

The red e-bikes feature rotating backrests, ergonomic seats, and dual-core fridges that improve cooling by 100%. Insulated delivery boxes made with eco-friendly PU foam extend heat retention and are disinfected daily.

Riders will also wear new racing-style uniforms and badges.
