Alibaba merges e-commerce units

It will unify the Taobao and Tmall Group with the Alibaba International Digital Commerce (AIDC) Group.

Alibaba Group has announced that it will merge its domestic and international e-commerce platforms into a single business unit, the Alibaba E-commerce Business Group, Reuters reported.

The new group consolidates the Taobao and Tmall Group with the Alibaba International Digital Commerce (AIDC) Group, which oversees AliExpress, Alibaba.com, and regional platforms in Southeast Asia and Turkey.

Jiang Fan, previously demoted in 2020 after a scandal, will lead the unit, reporting directly to Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu.

Wu revealed the restructure in a letter to employees, citing a “new era” in e-commerce driven by global supply chain and service capabilities.
