Alibaba joins the World Business Council for Sustainable Development
It has also started a low-emissions scheme, which led to reduced 22.907 million MtCO2e emissions.
Alibaba Group Holding Limited (Alibaba) has become the newest member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).
Joining an affiliation of over 200 leading businesses for sustainability, Alibaba has aimed to tackle climate action and emissions and utilise its platforms for expansive decarbonisation, in cooperation with involved WBCSD members.
“Alibaba's position as the largest e-commerce and digital technology company from Asia to join WBCSD will bring valuable platforms and technological capabilities to our collaborative efforts,” Peter Bakker, President and CEO of WBCSD, stated.

Currently, Alibaba Group is leveraging its ESG (environmental, social, and governance) goals as a cornerstone strategy to encourage consumers, sellers, and shareholders to participate in social and environmental initiatives through the platform.
The e-commerce platform has also pushed for its Scope 3+ target to apply digital solutions for its decarbonisation efforts and support low-carbon products, services, and plans. The Scope 3+ target led to an emission reduction of 22.907 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
